Give it a share!

“Is that in the right hole”? One of the volunteers laughed at me. “I think so. I am struggling with this erection,I replied with a smirk on my face. I had arrived at the location for gay camping UK staycation. Having the smallest tent onsite, it didn’t take me long to “get it up” and make this one-man tent my home for the next two nights.

I have been called ‘camp’ many times throughout my life. The more I drink, the camper I get. But camping in a tent is something I try to avoid actively. Don’t get me wrong. I do love spending time outdoors. Every 12 months or so, I love to try and get away with my dog to a beautiful campsite by renting one of the camping pods and doing a bit of glamping. But basic camping on the floor! I would typically give it a wide, wide berth!

How Did I End Up Gay Camping in the UK?

A few months back, when scrolling endlessly through Twitter in bed. I came across this group called WCM – UK Male Safer Sex Parties. It’s a private members club of nearly 2000 members with three admins who organise safer sex events in and around the UK for gay, bi-sexual, and curious men. After some research, I took the plunge and applied to join. What would be the harm? Why the hell not. I am not going to bore you with the application process. It was a straightforward one. If you are interested in joining, you can join here. It is straightforward and, as mentioned, a self-explanatory process.

Booking The Event

I noticed they had a 2-night, 3-day camping event and as if by chance, I had this time booked off from work. It felt like I was destined to go. I had always wanted to try one of these events, so why not give it a go. The other regular events they had hosted all had good reviews, and I was curious about giving it a try. In the worst-case scenario, I had my laptop fully charged, and I could stay in my tent or leave when I wanted. To me, it seemed like the perfect first event to try. Some action when I wanted it and space when I needed it.

Four weeks before the event started, I booked my place for £150. It’s not up to me to tell you if £150 is good value for money or if it’s pricey. I am always a firm believer that the cost of any product or service is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. Or how much that person needs a product or service. In my case, £150 was an excellent price for a clothing-optional gay camping UK staycation weekend.

What Did The Gay Camping UK Staycation Include?

For my £150, the weekend included the following:

  • 2 nights camping on the grounds where the parties were being hosted.
  • Breakfast each morning and dinner on the Saturday night. (Food from an onsite burger van)
  • Free access to the main adult only venue on Friday night, with bar, dance area, 30-man hot tub, dark play spaces.
  • Saturday night “chillout tent”, with areas to have fun in, with other campers.
  • Outside space for the daytimes with an outdoors hot tub again holding up to 30 people at a time.
  • Workshops, including, fire play, BDSM and rope skills.
  • Evening games
  • Naked Yoga

Travelling to the event

Living in the northwest of England, It was about a 3-hour drive to attend the event. I opted to participate in this event alone, and I find many perks to book and arrive at events like this on your own. The main one being it forces you out of your comfort zone and encourages you to interact with other people. I would say I am quite a comfortable person and I love meeting new people. Even I get a little nervous when I meet new people or try out a unique experience for the first time.

Don’t fancy travelling by car to these events. Check out “5 ways to get the CHEAPEST trains and SAVE.”

As I mentioned previously, I am not a seasoned camper. I don’t even own a sleeping bag, let alone a tent. The organisers at WCM did advertise that they had several brand-new free to hire tents for the weekend if anyone needed one. An offer I decided to take up. I didn’t want to buy my own tent as it probably would not get used again. Please keep reading for more on my tent later!

I mean, what else do you need!! 😉

Arriving at the event

I was arriving at the venue just after 12noon. The weather forecast looked promising, with sunny weather on Friday and Saturday and a high of 20c. If you’re reading this and are unfamiliar with English weather, 20c and sunny in mid-September is tropical! I collected my tent, showed my COVID pass and scanned my ticket. The weekend had officially started.

Greeted by one of the volunteers, let’s call him Harry for the sake of this. He might not want his identity published on the world wide web! Harry was a very friendly twenty-something. A little forward and cheeky but in a harmless and fun way. Two gay men erecting a tent. Well, I am sure you can imagine the innuendos flowing between us. The banter helped a lot, and I at least had met one friendly person here. At least one other person had their mind in the sexual innuendo gutter as I usually do!

My free rent-a-tent wasn’t hard to erect. Let’s be honest it was two poles, the fabric of the tent and four tent pegs. However, I was so grateful for Harry’s help. The light-hearted chit-chat helped me get settled in and put my mind at ease for the weekend ahead.

Before The Welcome Meeting

With my teeny tiny tent fully erect. I now laid out my bedding and unpacked my miniature bottles of vodkas. It was time to pour myself a refreshing double vodka and coke. I was now on my gay camping UK staycation, after all. The vodka helped with some courage. It aided in me speaking to some of the other attendees arriving around the same time as me. Their tents, however, we’re much more significant and luxurious than mine. I had to question myself, was I speaking to them to make friends? Or to play it safe in case I needed a spot in their luxury tents?  One guy at the event even had a camper van, which I soon became very jealous of.

Before long, I had talked to a few of the other attendees who had also pitched next to me. Everybody I spoke to was so welcoming and friendly. All down to earth guys, and it did put your mind at ease for the start of what was a fantastic weekend.

The Massage & Masseur

I found myself talking to one of the couples. One of them was the onsite masseur for the weekend. BONUS! I’m a right sucker for a massage. For only £40, I signed up to be his first customer of the weekend. The massage was perfect, a full-body sensual massage. Clothing was optional, followed by a very satisfying sensual massage. I was defiantly feeling more comfortable and in the mood for the weekend. The massage didn’t end with a ‘happy ending’, as they say in Thailand, but then again, that was my choice. I didn’t want to peak before the main fun started that Friday evening in the clubhouse.

After my massage, I chilled in my swimming jock to catch a bit of the British sun by the 30-man outdoor hot tub. At first, I was here on my own. I think as this was the first-ever camping weekend, everyone was feeling the same. Slightly nervous and waiting on what moves the other guests would make. It wasn’t long until I was joined by some of the other guests that I had got speaking to before my massage. The weather was on our side and made it so much easier to socialise. The weekend was hotting up with drinks from the bar and the bright golden sun shining on our skin.

The Gay Camping UK, Welcome Meeting

6 pm soon came around, and it was time for the welcome meeting. During my massage and chill out by the hot tub, the camping field had gotten a little busier. By the time the meeting started their must of been 30 of us who had arrived. At the welcome meeting, we were all offered some complimentary prosecco. A free drink is something I rarely turn down! As they’re known on the online group, the admins welcomed us to the site and went over the activities for the weekend. A few polite rules and reminded us that we were allowed to have sex anywhere outdoors. It didn’t matter! Their main aim was to make sure we had fun. They handed out breakfast and dinner tokens for our free meals, which we could use for the onsite burger van.

I felt, and I’m sure everyone else at the meeting felt welcomed, and any nerves that any of us might have had quickly went away. The admins explained that we were still waiting on a few more people to arrive. They had got stuck in some typical Friday night traffic. The standard for the dreadful motorways systems in England. If you’re from the UK, you would have heard of the M25 and how it is referred to as basically a massive car park at times.

The Friday Night Workshops

The Friday night fun started as soon as the welcome meeting ended. What better way to start than the sex workshops. I have always wanted to push my sexual knowledge on different types of kink and fetish. Today, I was lucky as the three workshops being taught were BDSM, Fire Play, and Rope Work.

Now I am going to be honest. The BDSM looked a little too intense for me. Being whipped with ropes that left a mark and stung was 100% something I knew I would not enjoy. Just by watching the willing volunteers as the class instructor whipped and dominated them made my eyes water. That is just me, lots of people in the workshop enjoyed it, and I’m sure a few of them left with a new skill for their bedrooms.

Being The Guinea Pig

The next workshop was all about the play of fire, which interested me but equally scared the hell out of me. Like, how can being set alight give you any form of pleasure! Moments later, I somehow got put forward by some of my new friends for the fire demonstration. Maybe I had become too confidant and cocky during the welcome drinks. Had I shot myself in the foot? Not wanting to wimp out, I reluctantly agreed and put what felt like my life in the hands of the instructor.

As I lay on this table, the instructor whispers in my ear, whatever you do, don’t move. I’m guessing this was to stop him from setting my head into a massive fireball. Luckily, I am pretty hairless on my body. I can’t grow much body hair. I was luckily helping to keep the smell of singed burning to a minimum. Feeling nervous as the instructor explained to the group what they were about to do. I closed my eyes, expecting to be in some form of pain as his fiery wand rolled across my back. But no, I was pleasantly surprised. It felt quite refreshing and relaxing, a bit like a hot stone massage. The instructor then continued to show a few different techniques to the group.

By the end, you could smell the aroma of burning hair, but as I mentioned before, I am hairless, and the little body hair I do have is on the backs of my legs.

The Friday Night Par-ty

Friday night was billed as the main event. After showering in the campsite toilet block with their glass doors on the shower cubicles, it was not ideal for “party prep” (I’m sure you get my gist when I say PREP!) WCM also saved limited rooms to help us prep before the party, but they definitely needed more.

We had access to the clubhouse, and it was a beautiful, well-looked-after venue. The WCM – Safer Sex Parties also had another event running at the same time. This event was for people who only wanted to go to the clubhouse Friday night party. Overall the event attracted about 100 people. That’s 100-fun loving up for it, guys, in jocks, harnesses and nakedness.

Dancing at Club
*As well as play areas, the Venue had a dance floor with DJ.

Super Friendly, Super Sexy Enviroment

It was a super friendly, super sexy environment to be in. Everyone was having a fantastic time. By this time, the drinks were flowing, and the action was happening. The indoor 30-man hot tub was a hit and a lovely place to meet new people, flirt with plenty of hands wandering under the water. As sexy and horny as the event was, people still respected each other, and if someone wasn’t interested in someone else, they understood and moved on.

It’s always important to remember that consent is sexy at these events, and whilst it is ok to make a move on someone, if someone says no or pulls away, it’s essential to get the hint.

The party went on till 2 am. The staff work so hard and are such a pleasure to chat with. They must see all sorts at the different events. The Vanilla Alternative Venue is used for gay events, heterosexual, Bisexual and swinger events. It was such a friendly atmosphere from both staff and other members. Come 2 am the people who only had tickets for that party had to leave, whilst we could continue back on the campsite, drinking around by our tents.

My Tenny, Tiny Tent

By 4 am, I was more than ready to get some sleep. After a fantastic evening and quite a few drinks, the bed was calling me. I say bed. I mean a hard bit of grass and a less than suitable duvet cover. Unlike most people at the campsite, I was so underprepared for my night’s sleep. It seemed everyone else had brought a blow-up bed, roll mats, pretty much anything soft to sleep on. I, on the other hand, had the cold hard ground.

I should add that I’m 191cm tall (6 foot 3 inches), and I am not sure if I MENTIONED, but this tent was TINY. I had to try and get comfortable in what I can only describe as the fetal position. I could only lay on one side for 20-30 minutes before getting a dead leg from the hard ground beneath. It wasn’t the best hard-on I had in my back, let’s put it that way. To add to this, condensation formed on the tent, dripping every time I moved or got cramp.

To be honest, I was so underprepared for the camping part of this trip. Even with the copious amount of vodka running through my veins, it wasn’t enough to knock me out and get me to sleep.

The Moring After The Night Before

9 am soon rolled around, and after a sleepless night. Maybe getting an hour or so of sleep, I decided enough was enough and started getting ready for the day ahead. I was showering in the beautifully warm heated outdoor showers. The morning was foggy but by 11 am, the sun had burnt off any fog, and again, it was turning into a relatively sunny day. I got back into my jock of a swimsuit and decided to lay by the 30-man outdoor hot tub and get a bit of rest on the comfortable foam beds whilst being warmed by the mid-September sun.

Yoga & Saturday Day Time

Managing to get some rest, it was time to try out some yoga. I had never experienced yoga before, let alone naked outdoor yoga. I always thought yoga was relatively easy and relaxing, but soon concluded that not as easy as laying on your back. Maybe because I could feel my hangover kicking in from the night before, and with a hangover typically comes the hangover horn. The hangover horn was also not being helped by the fact that I was surrounded by some pretty good-looking men, doing the downward-facing dog in front of me. WOOF!

Yoga over. It was time to enjoy the sunshine. It seemed pointless getting dressed after yoga, so we all chilled naked by the hot tub. A few people wandered off to take advantage of having some fun together in the outdoors around the site, which was encouraged by the organisers and the site management. A few chilled and drank by the tub for the rest of the afternoon.

Which group did I fall into? Well, that would be telling! It was an exhilarating experience, being about to relax naked and be yourself with like-minded fun and friendly people. Thank god for the fantastic weather. If the weather was cold or raining, I’m not sure what the atmosphere would have been among the group.

Saturday Evening

Saturday evening was billed as a chilled evening. The organisers named the big marquee “the love tent”. It had lovely, heated spaces for people to chill, relax and continue getting to know each other. The love tent also had at one end a room with large beds for people who were still looking for some action and a darkroom set up on the other side.

By this night, everyone understood each other, and you got the impression that everyone got on with everyone, regardless of age, race, body type or kinks. I have to say that I could not have asked to meet a better group of people for my first event with WCM.

After the night ended, it was time to head back and get some sleep. I could not face another night in my unpadded, little, tiny tent, and luckily, I didn’t have to. I met a cute lad who was just as mad as me and offered to spoon me for the night! Whilst the spooning was a perk. The holy grail was he had a double blow-up mattress in his tent. I felt like I was sleeping on the clouds after the night before! The cuddles weren’t bad either 😉.

Sunday Morning, Pack Uptime

Having a much better nights sleep, I tried to make it back to my tent without anyone noticing, but I had already woken up too late. The shouts from across the campsite calling me a dirty stop out in jest were already coming in thick and fast. I went back to my tent and headed to the shower block to freshen up before dismantling my tent. Did I mention it was a tiny tent? Jokes aside about the tent, I was grateful for the effort and thought of WCM renting these tents out free of charge.

The weather had become overcast, and it started to drizzle a bit. After all, this is England, so we were lucky enough to have two good days in the middle of September. I went to the breakfast van to get my final breakfast of the trip—a nice sausage bap with ketchup which I scoffed down.

It was soon time to pack down my tent. For the first time on the weekend, I was glad I had the smallest tent on the site. It took me seconds to put down and roll away. The campers with the larger and more luxurious tents struggled to find the energy to get theirs down. The bigger the erection, the harder it is to “get it down”. It wasn’t long before people went around and swapped social media details with each other. I hope to meet up and see some of these lads again at another event. But for now, it was time to head up the A1 and back home to my perfect bed!

My Final Thoughts.

Camping is still not going to be a regular activity for me. However, I did enjoy my time at this event and will 100% be returning for the next one, I have already told my friends back home about it, and I’m getting them all on board. Having had my Brokeback Mountain experience! Apart from that, I learnt a lot about myself this weekend, which is vital after any trip.

First, I learnt to bring a bigger tent and a blow-up mattress. Comfort is so important, and I’m not getting any younger, invest in a sleeping bag and make my tent as homely as possible. The only other thing I learnt was don’t drink as much. I didn’t need it to have fun. Whilst a few drinks make the event more fun, were so many needed? Was it worth the hangovers?

The admin team did a fantastic job of ensuring everyone was having a good time, safe, and well looked after. They are a friendly, well organised and committed group of people. Next time, I would love to see this event have double the number of people attend as it was so much fun, and the bigger it gets, I’m sure it can only get better.

If you want to join WCM – UK Male Safer Sex Parties, click the link and join up, they have loads of events throughout the UK, but even if, like me, you are not the biggest fan of camping, give it a try, like me, it might surprise you. I did have a fantastic time for a gay camping UK staycation.
